Private Sector and Legislative Reform

Mr. Khalid Al-Jabri, Chairman of Osoul, attended a meeting with Mr. Haibat Al-Halbousi as part of the Private Sector Development Council delegation. The meeting addressed a number of issues related to the business environment and the economic and legislative reforms needed to support the private sector in Iraq.

A key agreement reached during the meeting was to involve private-sector representatives in the relevant parliamentary committees to review draft legislation before enactment. This would ensure that proposed laws undergo thorough discussion and comprehensive assessment of their legislative and economic implications before being introduced for deliberation and implementation.

The meeting also explored mechanisms and solutions to stimulate private-sector growth by simplifying laws and regulations and updating outdated legislation, with the aim of creating more employment opportunities, overcoming economic challenges and crises, and supporting growth and economic activity in Iraq.

The discussion further addressed key issues and challenges arising from certain existing decisions and legislation, with a focus on identifying ways to realign and adapt them in a manner that serves the public interest and generates a positive impact on society and the national economy.
