Second Economic Dialogue Session

Osoul Foundation Holds Second Session on the Iraqi Economy and Private Sector to Explore Sustainable Reform Pathways

The Osoul Foundation for Economic and Sustainable Development held the second discussion session in its series of specialized meetings examining the state of the Iraqi economy, with the participation of leading experts and specialists in economic, financial, strategic, and media affairs.

The session focused on in-depth discussions of the current economic situation and the state of Iraq’s private sector, examining the challenges facing economic activity and the factors that have shaped the economy’s trajectory and weakened its capacity to achieve growth and sustainable development.

Discussions also addressed the importance of moving beyond identifying problems towards developing forward-looking solutions that reflect the realities of the current phase and establish pathways for immediate-, medium-, and long-term action. This approach aims to address current challenges while laying the foundations for a more sustainable economic trajectory.

Particular emphasis was placed on identifying the structural deficiencies that have diverted the economy from its intended course and examining the tools and policies needed to address these imbalances, restore a more balanced economic trajectory, and strengthen the private sector’s role in economic growth, development, and job creation.

The session was attended by MP Safaa Al-Jabri, Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Industry and Investment; Mr. Ali Al-Alaq, Advisor to the Prime Minister; Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Mashhadani, Member of the Iraq Economic Observatory; Mr. Samir Al-Nusairi, Financial and Monetary Expert; Mr. Ali Jabbar, Strategic Crisis Management Expert; prominent media professional Mr. Naseer Al-Awwam; and Mr. Aqeel Al-Muhammadawi.

This session forms part of the Osoul Foundation’s efforts to establish a professional economic dialogue platform that brings together policymakers, experts, the private sector, and the media. The initiative aims to move beyond describing challenges towards developing actionable, well-founded proposals and solutions that contribute to correcting the course of the economy and strengthening Iraq’s capacity to address future challenges.
